How goes it, everyone? How has this week been? And what are your plans for the weekend?
I've had some downtime this week. Nothing too dramatic, sometimes I just have to readjust and redelegate my energy, and I've spent some time trying to fix my sleep schedule, and catching up with my own writing process, as I was a bit distracted for a while. I have written a little bit almost every day overall, but for a week or so I was failing with my 1K words per day rule, so I have to try to compensate for that.
I told one of my buddies at the sobriety group that I would take this week off, meaning I wouldn't attend any meetings, and he understood. I also announced on my TikTok that I would take some days off from my livestreams, which they all to validate.
So hey, a healthy way of withdrawing for a bit, without just disappearing, right?
I've also tried to get back into my reading game. The Paul Tremblay book is quite interesting so far. And in addition to my 31 horror movies in 31 days challenge, I randomly discovered a new TV show that I've been enjoying. It's called Shrinking, starring Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams (damn, what a fox), Christa Miller, and in a hilarious supporting role, we have, of all people Ted McGinley (previously known for the Revenge of the Nerds franchise, and as Jefferson D'arcy, Ted Bundy's neighbor on Married... With Children). So far, he's such a non-character on the show that that's his actual character, just chimes in with random comments in passing.
Jason Segel plays a therapist, but he himself doesn't have his shit together, and he ends up doing some controversial stuff, including involving his patients. It's pretty entertaining so far, and has a slight vibe of Californication with David Duchovny.
Speaking of of my movie marathon, this is what I've been watching lately:
Barbarian (2022)
We see Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård and Justin Long in a very bizarre tale. It starts off with two of the characters apparently having been double booked at an airbnb, and it just gets crazier from there.
Speak No Evil (2024)
James McAvoy is a super versatile actor, and when he plays a villainous character, he can be incredibly intimidating. His character in this movie makes you feel uncomfortable, because in some ways, you have met one of these characters in your life; that intense dude at a party or someone picking a fight with you in the street. He just takes it to the next level here.
The First Omen (2024)
Since my childhood, the Omen trilogy has been among my favorite movies. (I say the trilogy, knowing that there was a fourth made-for-TV movie, but the story was quite unrelated, and I also know there was a 2006 remake, which wasn't too bad). So it was cool to see a fourth installment after all these years, and I didn't mind that it was a prequel. It had a slightly different vibe than the original trilogy, but still felt very much like an Omen movie.
Abigail (2024)
Now this was a fun ride. I think of it as a Die Hard/Panic Room-style suspense movie that happens to become a horror movie. A group of thugs kidnaps the titular Abigail, planning to hold her for ransom, but they quickly discover that they have messed with the wrong family.
Cabin Girl (2023)
This was a Tubi original, and definitely had some indie movie vibes. I won't say too much about it, but it's one of those movies that can be interpreted in different ways, as there is a deeper, underlying story going on aside from the creepy stuff you see on the surface. Short but interesting enough.
In a Violent Nature (2024)
Someone called this "slasher ASMR" and I actually agree. The premise for this one is really cool. Think of a Jason Voorhees-type killer from the Friday the 13th franchise, but the entire movie is from his perspective. His slow stalking through the woods, sneaking up on victims, etc. And he is a silent killer, so the only dialogue you'll catch is the other characters that he walks up to. There is also no music, so you'll often just watch him stomp around in the forest in silence.
No One Will Save You (2023)
I really liked this one. Another movie that has a touch of symbolism, but it was really creepy at times. And speaking of near-silent movies, this one basically has no dialogue at all, so you have to depend on the actress' expressions and reactions to absorb the story. Really effective.
So, there's a little update for this week! I hope you'll give me an update in return; I'd like to know what's going on with everyone!
And hey, let's enjoy a song as usual. This one is a recent discovery of mine, Chena. She just dropped a new song - it literally came out yesterday - and it sounds pretty cool.
