I have to say, letting the book roulette dictate my next reads is a wonderful approach. Saves a lot of time when I have like 10 titles at once I am curious about.
This time, the ancient roulette gods bestowed upon me the gift of The Dead Take the A Train by Cassandra Khaw, co-written by Richard Kadrey. Check out the absolutely stunning cover of this book, by the way. So many books nowadays have such a uniform cover style, it's a breath of fresh air to see some solid artwork.
This appears to be the first installment of a duology called Carrion City, and according to the blurb, it tells the tale of Julie Crews, who is trying to make it in the magic scene. She "is desperate for a quick career boost to break the dead-end grind, but her pleas draw the attention of an eldritch god who is hungry for revenge. Her power grab sets off a deadly chain of events that puts her closest friends – and the entire world – directly in the path of annihilation."
Well, how about that! Some Lovecraftian end-of-the-universe cosmic horror always makes for a fun time, does it not?
