So I've been on this crazy job search vendetta recently. I've been applying since we got back from London - only sent out two applications to places though so far. I got the interview for the first one, but didn't really want the position by the time they asked me for the interview - but I went anyway to get the experience. I also got the interview for the second one, but was very keen for this position - and this is where my story begins...
I applied for this position as a Graduate IM Support Officer back in mid July and crossed my fingers and hoped like hell that they'd offer me the interview. As I've already said, they did, and I then madly began preparing for what I refer to as "interview hell". I read the book "10 Key Steps to Ace That Interview" and started preparing answers to the kinds of questions I could be asked - like "tell us a bit about yourself" and "what do you offer this position". I drove Matthew and my family up the wall for 3 days while I freaked out and tried to prepare myself as much as possible for every little thing. For this interview I also needed to do a web test - making a fairly simple site in HTML and CSS in 30 mins under test conditions.
Anyway, I went to this intervew on Thursday (yesterday) - did my web test, and gave my best possible interview performance at my panel interview. I smiled, was nice, enthusiastic and polite - and by the time I left I thought I'd done a pretty good job. I wasn't certain it was good enough, but I thought they'd at least consider me for the position past my interview. They said they would get back to me by the end of next week either way on their decision.
Today one of the people I have down as my referee let me know that he'd been called and had said lots of nice things about me, so I was fairly hopeful that I might be able to claw my way past my other competition for the role.
This afternoon - not 24 hours after I'd had my interview ... they offered me the position!
That's right ladies and gents - I'm the newest addition to the Department of Housing! Booyah!
I'm very happy. Apparently I didn't do too shabbily at all at the interview since they got back to me so quickly - they said they were very impressed by my web test and by my interview ... so I'm thrilled. I'll start on the first of September. In a job. With good income. With the government. As my first full time job. In only the second job I applied for.
YAY!
