Trust and respect. Those are the two most critical elements in the jewelry business. They are currency no money can buy. Without trust and respect a jeweler will not last long. And the only way to earn such things is through good work and making your word your bond. If that trust and respect is lost you rarely get it back. So guard it carefully.
Some people don't get that. They don't understand why good jewelers conduct business in their peculiar way. Name-dropping isn't seen as bad form by the public. For jewelers though, we don't announce ourselves outside of work and we certainly don't trade on other names. Sure, I'm not afraid to say what I do for a living. I have no problem talking about it. But I don't make a fuss over it either. Good jewelers rarely wear a lot of jewelry. What they do wear is typically understated. A simple ring or an innocuous watch suffices. In part that's because we work with our hands so excessive jewelry just gets in the way. And when you work on jewelry all the time you just don't have the same desire to wear it.
An ex-relative wants to do some business through the shop. But so far she has shown herself lacking. It's a problem that is quickly becoming a headache. She has no tact nor the good sense to keep her mouth shut. It's not that she shouldn't say anything at all, but it matters who she says it to. She's not a crook but others are and you're not going to outsmart a crook. They're better at being crooks than you are. And she doesn't realize that. I'm not keen on confrontation but I certainly won't shy away from it if necessary. Just a matter of seeing how things play out.

doesn't sound like it's off to a good start with her though.
