Kind of a sticky situation. Friend of the family is trying to broker a diamond deal. Normally I wouldn't have a problem with this but the family friend (ex-family actually) can't go on our insurance nor would I want her on the policy. Various reason why and any one of them is enough on their own to make me twitchy. Just a bad vibe.
Now it seems that the buyer has had his bank account frozen by the Treasury. He claims they did so in response to unusual account activity involving certain Arabs. Not sure how much of that is true but if it's an excuse then it's a really bad one. If the Treasury feels the need to take such action then it's due to the Arabs in question being on a watch list. And if he's trying to purchase a diamond it's possible that he's trying to launder money.
Everything about this deal smells. I don't like it and I'm trying to put up as many roadblocks as I can. Personally I would just call off the whole thing but I'm not the only decision maker here. Still, if anything more comes up questionable then I'll have to step in. There's federal and international law to consider here. And I'd like to keep the business out of such troubles. The whole thing is quickly becoming a headache that I don't need.
