Driving down the interstate all night with no other cars on the road is an interesting experience. The car feels so lonely engulfed in blackness, with the headlights a weak, almost desperate fight against the vast emtiness of pregnant nothingness. I've always been a fan of it. Dawn this morning in Southern Oregon as we were driving back from SF was beautiful, the fog covered the mountains witht just the right amount of opacity to make the black heaps look like misty holes in the otherwise blank grey sky. It was kind of crackheaded of us to drive back from Mindstates last night without sleeping, but we both really wanted to get home to talk to people about it and there is something mysterious about the highway at night, especially after an amazing gathering with people who will bend one's mind to being recpetive to ideas of magic and mysticism.
I met some really cool people this weekend. It was a good mix of hard scientists and the above mentioned more mystical thinking people in dialogue to intertwine the two and work on a more complete theory of consciousness and human life and nature. The art was also amazing. Alex and Alison Grey, Martina Hoffman, Peter Tomaselli and others, all amazing. Stanislov Grof presented a model of pre-natal consciousness and how it affects our psychology through his patients' art. It was amazing. I am so happy and lucky to have been a part of such a wonderful gathering of minds. And I met the Shulgins! I never thought I would jump up and down screeching like a thirteen-year-old at an 'Nsync concert, but after meeting and talking to Sasha and Ann Shulgin and gettting a signed copy of Pihkal, I surprised myslef.
And, I have been left with a list of books I need to read so long, it makes me wish that I could do nothing with my life for the next three months, but absorb.
