So as for an update on my green babies & perhaps some useful information to some as well...in about 1 more week both the AK-47 & the Sour Diesel will be ready to cut, manicure, and begin the drying & curing process. The Official Leaching Stage began this evening too. This means in about 1 week or less...all the (nasty tasting) nutrients in the plant that you don't want to smoke should be gone. You can usually tell this with a Nutrient part per millionth tester...I personally like the digital ones the most for accuracy though. When this is a "go" you can then cut the plant at the stalk flip it upside down, hang it (I prefer a cleaned tub to do this over because you can then more easily collect the clippings and small buds for use into some of the best bubble hash or hash oil ever!), now I prefer to initially begin manicuring; but some choose to wait for it to dry a bit and then manicure...it really depends on how you prefer it...I've just found that for us it always tastes to superb quality if you initially manicure it and then let it dry for days though. Then you "let it dry until the branches snap", which is your sign that they are ready...(now again this is my method though as some may have others). I have discovered that if you put the buds with some branch still left on it; it doesn't turn to crumbles inside the jars as easily. Also if you start to cure the buds in a container too early the buds won't hold the smell or flavor it should...like it wants to mold actually which in all honesty would make sense if you jar anything when still damp and stored in a dark cabinet or closet...lol. The branches naturally hold or retain water so that is why when you have your drying plant looking like it's dry and buds feel crisp to an extent AND the branches snap instead of bend over....then you know you are at a PRIME time to begin your curing process. How long does curing take? Well that again depends on the grower/caregiver, for us in Colorado here it usually only takes about 3 days to 1 week tops due to the drier climate. That is at a rate of "burping" it (opening the container or jar lid to let it air out) at about 30-60 minutes depending on climate about 3-5 times a day. Remember that it's always easier to fix a dry bud than to fix a wet one to indulge in btw. Never rush the process by all means possible and you'll have some of the most beautiful prized buds covered in crystal and dark hairs! lol. Hope any of that was able to help someone from the breakdowns of it...lol.
Tomorrow we move 3 more new babies into the budding room out of the vegging room to replace the ones we're harvesting soon. It's always important to keep a cycle going if you need constant supply as I do after all. So 3 tomorrow and then 3 more 1-2 weeks after that depending; and so forth. That way every 1-2 weeks your harvesting and not worrying about where to find or go for your next batch of meds. Damn am I happy those days are done & over that's for sure. lol.
Until the next blog update on the Green Thing in my life...
Much Peace, Love & Light Always!
