So for the last few weeks I've been taking an improv class at Second City. I've always eschewed improv a bit as not being "real acting", but I took the class because I wanted to improve my ability to think on my feet to help my auditioning skills. I'm pleasantly surprised to find that not only is it helping my performance skills, but it's a heck of a lot of fun to do. I love the adrenalized feeling I get from not knowing what I'm going to do next. It also doesn't hurt that I like other kids in the class, which includes a number of attractive young women who like to go out drinking after class.
It's nice to stretch myself with a new skill. (And by the way I'm starting to find that good improv is actually more about listening that thinking of funny quips.) I still have the lingering feeling that, like experimental jazz, improv is more fun to do than to watch. But I'm going to continue classes at Second City and consider possibly putting up a sketch show with my classmates.

I love to watch improv. . . but then I love to listen to experimental jazz also when the melodies are coherent.
