Had a meeting with another agent today, but I got a bad vibe from it and decided it wasn't for me. The office and my interactions with her had an air of unprofessionalism that I did not like. She seemed quite irked that I hadn't already filled out my paperwork (information about me, contractor's agreement, w-9s, etc.) ahead of time and I told her that I was hoping to ask her some more about her agency first before signing up. She wasn't happy with that and told me I should have been prepared for that immediately upon walking in and that she was required by law to have all my paperwork before she could even audition me.
Which is of course not true. And I am always very leery of people who tell me they required to do so-and-so by law when they're not, even if the thing itself is relatively inconsequential. So I decided to bail and told her that I was not ready to sign her paperwork today. Which made her even less happy and she went off about all the great things she would have done for me and that as a non-union actor trying to get represented I shouldn't be asking any questions or being picky.
Yeah, well I call bullshit on that. Anyway, I must say I now feel like even more of a professional that I did yesterday: I just burned my first bridge!
p.s. Oh and she also more or less told me that it would take an insanely long time to get your money from jobs from them--like 6 months!--becuase "they were a 'boutique' operation and didn't have a dedicated accountant." Once again, I call upon bullshit to assist me in characterizing that statement.
