Tuesday was my friend Roman's birthday, so my friend T and I tricked him into getting into my car to go to lunch, and took him away from Hollywood all the way out to the beach in Santa Monica. He said he hadn't been to the beach in at least 8 years, which is longer than he's actually lived in LA.
So we went to the Viceroy for lunch, and got the mad hookup since I used to work there and am still friends with the head chef, had a few cocktails and such. Then, as Roman had just gotten back from a book-signing tour in Spain, I took them to Bar Pintxo, a very authentic Spanish tapas bar that's a couple blocks away from the new restaurant where I start working in a couple weeks, and he loved that.
We walked around on the pier out over the water, acting like tourists, which was hilarious, taking pictures and such (them, not me, I never carry a camera), and then we headed back to Hollywood.
Had a huge taco feast at Malo in Silverlake with 10 or so more friends showing up, then drinks after at Tiny's, and then scattered to the wind.
It was a pretty great birthday, and it wasn't even mine.
