Yesterday was awesome. I had breakfast with some friends, then went down to the public pool and sat in the sun for a couple hours. After that, off to a friend's birthday party at a beer garden here in the 'hood. Several hours, beers, and sausages later, we wandered over to Hollywood, to hang out at The Foundry, a new restaurant a guy I know opened a couple months back. We didn't have the appetite for a meal, so it was mostly more beers, a little whiskey, and a bit of snacking.
Got up around noon today, Henry made some breakfast, and I then ran to the store to pick up a bunch of stuff to make some really delicious soup, which is simmering away on the stove as I type. A few weeks back when I smoked a whole chicken outside, I saved the carcass after carving the meat off, and froze it. I've also got some scraps of cured meats like some serrano ham, smoked duck, and guanciale (cured pigs' cheeks) that went into the pot as well. Added in some veggies after making that broth and straining it, and we've got the makings of something beautiful.
I also picked up some fresh figs, and some heirloom tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. Reducing some balsamic vinegar into syrup and got some fresh basil, to make a tomato salad thing with all that.
Yum.
Tomorrow I'm going deep-sea fishing.
