So a buddy of mine just got back from Spain, he was down in the same region I visited when I was there.
You may remember my ranting about the hams there... Well, Miguel was born in Granada and a lot of his family still lives there, and he used to be a chef, so he understands and shares the same passion for pig. He brought back a whole Iberico ham, the highest grade he could get. His uncle actually picked out the pig when it was still alive and had it cured and aged just for Miguel. The thing aged for over 4 years .... and is probably the most expensive ham you could buy anywhere.
He brought it into my restaurant last night, offering to trade me some of it for my breaking it into smaller bits and vacuum-sealing them so it wouldn't dry out before he could finish eating it all.
Oh my God. So delicious. He gave me 3 chunks of it. I shared one with all my co-workers last night and brought the other 2 home. I don't imagine they'll last too long. From what I figure, that ham cost about $400/lb.
On another note, Guitar Center online ordering sucks balls. I ordered an acoustic bass 10 days ago, which their website showed as being in stock. The order status says "Being Packed" on 7/23 but apparently it hasn't shipped, cuz it sure isn't here yet. Lame ... they said 2-5 business day shipping.
