I went ahead and ordered a pair of practice poi and have joined the mailing list for the Baltimore Calefaction Society. This means I will be hanging out with fire performers, learning fire performance myself, and worrying my husband sick. I chose poi because it is the form most unlike anything Ive ever done before; the other forms (fans, sticks, baton, etc.) seem like things I can add to my existing repertoire. To see a photo of poi dancers in action, go to http://www.fluidmovement.org and click on coming soon.
I found my swimsuit top, by the way. It was in my helmet.
Todays poems, written by Robert Herrick, are about states of dress and undress. The first one, Delight in Disorder, echoes my sentiments exactly and makes me feel better about the mess I am. The second one, Upon Julias Clothes is pretty obvious: he likes to see her nekkid.
Delight in Disorder
A sweet disorder in the dress
Kindles in clothes a wantonness:
A lawn about the shoulders thrown
Into a fine distraction:
An erring lace, which here and there
Enthralls the crimson stomacher:
A cuff neglectful, and thereby
Ribbands to flow confusedly:
A winning wave, deserving note,
In the tempestuous petticoat:
A careless shoe-string, in whose tie
I see a wild civility:
Do more bewitch me than when art
Is too precise in every part.
Upon Julias Clothes
Whenas in silks my Julia goes,
Then, then (methinks) how sweetly flows
That liquefaction of her clothes.
Next, when I cast mine eyes and see
That brave vibration, each way free;
Oh, how that glittering taketh me!
