sometimes production just sucks.
(and sometimes it rocks, but not this week.)
this week was just incredibly stupid. this client has been having bad sample problems, so we never have all the merch we need to shoot. then the clients came in en masse on tuesday morning to see everything that was "going wrong" with the shoot and then wanted to have a brainstorming session IN THE STUDIO to come up with ideas on how to fix things. WHILE WE WERE SHOOTING.
hello! the team is there to shoot. let us do our jobs, thank you. so one by one the stylist and assistants were pulled away from the shoot (can someone dress the model, please?) and we were still expected to get 35 shots.
yes, that's right, we have to do 35 shots a day. by comparison, when i worked with Meisel, he only had to do 6. Annie Leibovitz does 6-8 a day (with no set, no props, only a clean cyc). Demarchelier...well...he's just a fashion industry enigma. he only shoots like 8 frames for every shot, as opposed to 8 rolls, so he has no problem doing, oh, like up to *gasp!* 12 shots a day. (and all that is in studio, not on location.)
and the client thinks we can do 45, if we try harder.
yeah, cause we're just sitting around slacking. no wonder we burn out photographers so quickly.
gah. anyway, it just kept going downhill from there. one of the assistant stylists invoiced the client for a day she didn't work, so the assistant who did work that day isn't going to get paid, the art director got so much free advice from the merchants on how to art direct her shots (as if they have a clue) she ended up in tears (which she never does - she's a rock and i adore her), and the rest of us were so exhaused i didn't think that we'd make it to the train on thursday night.
and i've had a cold all week.
and the BF and i argued this morning because he wanted to go see Sin City at 11:40 and i slept in until 10:15 (which was wonderful!), but now i'm groggy and really don't want to go sit in a dark theater first thing when i'm still sicky.
so, just one of those weeks. on the upside, one of my fave young photogs (Chris Militscher -- check his work out at Winston West) called me and asked me to possibly work on an editorial with him! woo hoo! (of course, it doesn't pay, but it's good for the portfolio.)
but, the result of this week is, i am sad to say, i don't think i'll be at SG open call tonight...i am SO bummed...i'm gonna try to make it, but i think i'm going to be in bed by 9 pm, and it sounds like all the fab crew isn't going until later!! so sad. i want to come!

Come out tonight -- leave the man at home and stay for an hour or two! Wouldn't hurt, ya know
Hope you're feeling better though!
