The software industry in Seattle actually turns out to be a very small pond, and if you stick around long enough, you end up knowing everyone or having a common acquaintance with everyone. I've been here for over five years now, so I know a lot of people. Not friends, mind, I'm not much good with people, but a lot of acquaintances.
Today, I wandered out into the cube farm, and several people were talking about someone's exploits at DEFCON. I listened a bit, and whoever they were talking about seemed interesting. Finally, someone said, "Yeah, she's got that dyed-red hair and the piercings, and she's got to be the craziest person I know."
You can imagine that I was very curious about such a creature.
Then they said her name, and I realized they were talking about an old friend of mine. By chance, we'd been talking over IM, and I told her about what they'd said.
"They work with you, and they think I'm crazy," she said in disbelief.
"It's the polo shirts," I said. "Little crocodile confuses them."

It did make the name of today's new SG comical to see when I logged on this morning.
