Another year older today. I'm still okay in the Logan's Run (movie version) of things, but a few more years and I'll have to think about running.
What has this year been like? Most any other year.
I had a brief flowering of friendship, but that seems to have petered out for now. I hope that others are better for having known me, and that we'll see each other again eventually. Only time will tell.
I have a girlfriend again. That there's nothing to really report on that front may be the most miraculous thing of all. I'm so used to my relationships falling under the chaos that I seem to generate.
I gave up my fun jobs to take a "real" job again. At my review nine months after starting, I received the highest review in the company, and the idea has been floated that I'm the best employee in the company. I'll probably be senior management again by the time I write another birthday roundup.
With the real job comes real money. There's enough said on that.
(In)frequent trips to the gym and a more thoughtful diet are (slowly) taking the weight off. I may never be thin again, but it's nice to see the scale a couple of pounds lower almost every time I check my weight.
With the reducing weight comes a slight interest in clothes again. I'm still too fat to wear most of the styles I'd like, but it's getting closer.
Apparently not content with all that, I've also developed a social conscience this year. i've started on being more ecologically friendly, I've stopped supporting businesses with poor human rights policies, and I've started supporting businesses and organizations that I find laudable (even more than I always have).
My flirtations with going back to school for the elusive PhD continue. The Genome Sciences, Bioengineering, and Nanotechnology schools of the local state mega-university are as beguiling as ever. Getting Dual PhDs in Bioengineering and Nanotechnology has some cachet.
The elusive edits on my novel were largely finished last week. Only fixing the timeline and getting some test readers remain before trying to sell it.
If these trends continue, I wonder what I'll have to strive for next year.
For today? We have no real plans. Maybe a little shopping (I've got my eye on some Riedel champagne flutes), some cooking, maybe lunch at one of my favorite places, watching a few episodes of Lost (which I have now hooked others on), and possibly some champagne after dinner (I've got a bottle of some interesting-looking brut, but I really want to pick up a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Rose). Or to put it more simply, another quiet, peaceful day.
Time to go. I've got fresh brewed Earl Grey Cream from Market Spice and nothing more to say.

But for the sneaks, I stick to the Old Standbys, since I beat the shit out of those fuckers.
