This afternoon while killing time looking at the web, I came across a little video clip I wanted to see. The site demanded that I download a "download manager" onto my computer, which would be pointless even if I would allow it since I'm on the Mac at home. Somehow, I thought nothing of spending five minutes digging through half-a-dozen blind files to eventually figure out the download manager's protocol (an XML document under several layers of obfuscation gave with the details). After that, I constructed a request to mimic the download manger and used NetCat to get the results.
The part that worries me is that all this seemed like the most natural thing in the world to do. I'm so very far away from being that farm boy.
