My days have been exemplary of late, and I'm glad.
Friday was my last day at my go-kart job. I'm going to miss doing that--but I also have several accounts with many race credits so I'll be able to ride the karts a while longer. The day was draining, though. Imagine dealing with a daylong stream of people that were genuinely sad that you would be leaving. Even I'm not hard enough not to be wiped out by something like that. I kept singing Social Distortion's "Ball and Chain" under my breath.
I got an email from my new job telling me exactly when to come in, what to do when I got there, and that my office/computer/phone were being taken care of already. They were even apologetic that my dual-head video card wasn't in yet. They also said they had a document explaining their development process and the background documents for my new project already. I can't tell you how excited I am to be talking to a company that seems to have its house in order.
I was unable to raise anyone for dinner, so I ended up having a nice New York at the Met by myself and going home early. MisterSatan messaged me later to come out to the Juju, but I was entirely too tired to countenance that. Apparently, I missed out on quite the SGSeattle-Members-On-Hiatus gathering. I also missed PunkJr doing the legendary Canadian abomination known as the 649.
I woke yesterday feeling very refreshed. I sat on the balcony and ate a peanut butter and cherry sandwich while watching the marvelously pretty day unfold.
MisterSatan eventually messaged me again, and we agreed on doing lunch. I picked his hoboness up and drove to a more...eclectic part of Seattle. There were found Tutta Bella, which makes Neapolitan pizza and is one of only 100-some-odd Naples-certified pizza places in the world. The pizza was simply incredible. I lack sufficient adjectives to explain further. I had an "individual-sized" (roughly the size of a Pizza Hut medium) Tutta Bella, which consisted of hot Italian sausage, some sort of tomato sauce, carmelized onions, mushrooms, and what I knew immediately to be fresh Buffalo-milk mozzarella chunks. This had been baked in a 1000-degree brick oven heated exclusively by Yakima apple wood. The result was amazing. MisterSatan's pizza was remarked to be equally amazing. We washed this amazing pizza down with Tutta Bella Ale made by Thomas Kemper, which was nearly as amazingly good as the pizza.
Being that we'd seen Soul Plane recently and were in a rougher section of town, MisterSatan and I were hung up on "spinnas". Appropriately, we saw an SUV riding spinnas as we chatted over our pizza.
I was in rare form and began chatting with the waitress. In a few seconds, I had her showing us her tattoos. When she revealed that she had a belly tattoo in a tone that said all I had to do was ask to see it, I put myself back in check. We left not long after with MisterSatan giving me a sidelong glance or two.
Out in the street, we saw a riced-out Prelude grind the front air dam badly on the curb. I murmured "this day just gets better" and MisterSatan agreed.
We decided to watch Dodgeball, and after an ill-advised shortcut on my part, we arrived at the theater. We killed some time before the movie in Barnes & Noble. I was very happy to pimp several favorite books and authors in the process.
Dodgeball was hilarious. The strongest recommendation I can make is that the funniest bits weren't in the trailer.
Afterward, MisterSatan and I were wandering aimlessly around downtown Seattle. Somehow we ran into PunkJr and his lovely young friend at a Starbucks. This is actually a bit more amazing than you'd think. With the sheer number of Starbucks in Seattle, the odds of being at the same one at the same time are somewhat miniscule.
That all aside, it was great to see them both. I transshipped from MisterSatan, who was due to meet someone else, and ended my day in Seattle by having dinner with PunkJr, his spectacular girlfriend, and the lovely young friend. I was very happy to be there.
After I got home, I wrote a little, watched Old School, and reflected that I like my life now.
I like it a lot.
Today, I'm writing a bit. I think SupremePizzaMan and I will go to see Dodgeball again.
Tomorrow, I start the new job and meet with the director of the MBA program I'm looking at.
Amazingly, I've been smiling almost all weekend.
