I had a really pushy and persistent woman call me asking for donations to my college's alumni association. When she wouldn't shut up long enough for me to ask her to take me off their call list, I called her a naughty name. That shut her up for about four seconds, and they she made this sound like a scalded cat and said, "What did you say to me?"
I'm perplexed by the question and the way she acted afterward. The question is perplexing because she obviously heard what I called her, so was she in shock that I could call her such a naughty name? Is it that unbelievable that someone would call her a naughty name?
Then she hissed at me and slammed down the phone like I was the one inconveniencing her--this is the other part that perplexed me. She was calling and annoying me past the bounds of polite cold-call-rejection, but she acted like she was punishing me when she slammed the phone down.
People never cease to amaze me.
