Day 42
I used to have this friend named Allen. He was cool. He was also kinda crazy. If you've ever seen Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, he kinded reminded me of Johnny Depp in that movie. Same bucket hat and extremely wide eyes. Even kinda talked like him. He was always down to get into some crazy shit, drink, or just hang out. I remember he once told me about an idea he had to train penguins with lasers on their heads to be his slaves. I could only laugh.
I also remember how he told me about his job once. He worked at some lab, killing rats. He told me about how he put them all in a container and then let poison in. He would watch the rats at the bottom freak out and try and claw their way to the top. He smiled when he told that story.
I told ya he was crazy.
But that was just the start of his crazy. he went with a few of his buddies with an AK and an SKS to do God knows what. A cop tried to pull them over, standard traffic stop. Of course, they ran. And...... Allen shot. Eventually hitting the cop and killing him. Other cops had been called, arrived, and opened fire. Allen was hit right between the eyes, dying instantly.
I guess he was like one of the rats, trying to escape the inevitable. Of course, it was futile.
The AK and SKS belonged to my friend and roommate, Josh. After everything went down, he was arrested, tried, convicted and sentenced to 40 1/2 years in prison. He wasn't there, didn't know what was goin on, or pull the trigger, but he got 40 1/2 years in prison. I've heard of guys who stabbed multiple convience store clerks and robbed them, but received only 15 years. After all this, I lost one friend to the afterlife, one to prison, and my place. I was also a witness in a trial and had to be questioned on multiple occasions. I was threatened by police and had the ATF knocking on my friends doors looking for me.
I hated that whole course of events. But I have to look at it and wonder. The past is unchangeable. That is the way it shall always be. And since that's the way it was, how am I to say that's not the way it was meant to be? The way it was destined to happen? Do we really have choice, or is it all planned out?
Do I choose my own fate?
