Happy Sunday! 💙
I'm sooo sleepy today! You all may have heard about the 6.1 earthquake we had early this morning. Scared me! Couldn't go back to sleep. How's everyone in the Bay Area holding up? So far no deaths reported and hopefully it stays that way, but there were some people in critical condition.
I'm about 40 miles away from the epicenter, it wasn't that bad here mostly just startled us! My nerves are sensitive lately anyways. It felt so crazy, me and my guy were awake before it hit... He tosses and turns in the early morning hours. But seems like we heard it before the shaking started, first couple seconds my mind couldn't grasp what was happening. (Godzilla!??) The shaking lasted about 30 seconds, it's the biggest quake I've ever experienced. The shaking was hard to explain... So far, no damage at my house. I was more worried about one of our tenants who's an elderly woman. Her house is older and known to have water leaks after quakes... But I talked to her early this morning and she is ok. My poor kitties are shaken up. I'll defiantly be on alert all week for aftershocks, and try to make sure we all have emergency supplies around and a good plan. I have a bit of a fascination with seismology, and I check the quake maps daily... So it's not like I was THAT surprised. But I tend to be the "mother hen" of the group and I like to make sure everyone is ok!
I know people like to joke and be like, oh it's California you should be used to it, but this is the biggest quake in The Bay Area in 25 years so it's not like it happens all that often, and not quakes of this size. And creepy thing about quakes is you don't know where and when it'll hit next! I've used to live in the Midwest and was pretty freaked out by tornados... But I don't think I would choose between the two. Any natural disaster is equally humbly for me. I already have mad respect for this planet, but damn she has a way of commanding that respect!
So I'm just curious, if you're In the Bay Area, did you feel that quake? What was your reaction?
