Wrote this yesterday on my lunch break. Hope you dig it.
Islands and Volcanoes
The old saying goes:
"No man is an island."
But how many of us could float
On an ocean, sustaining life
For millions of years?
It's true: no man is an island.
But every man is a volcano.
Every single person can stand
Majestic and dominant, high and silent
Above their surroundings one day,
Then rain down hateful fire the next.
Pompeii was lost to hot, ashen rage from above.
We lost friends by blanketing them
With the soot and the anger
Of our negativity.
Every man is a volcano.
Learn when to be dormant,
And when to explode.
