"Can you play the trumpet??"
That was what she said to me.
"No, but I know someone who can," was the lazy reply.
We sat on the blue velvet couch staring at nothing in particular, cigarettes dangling from our mouths like we were impersonating Keith Richards.
You pulled a black plastic case shaped like a pear from the opposite side of the couch's blue armrest. You opened it, and pulled out a violin of the most beautiful amber color, you rubbed resin along the horsehair that made up the bow, and began to play a song for me.
As I listened to the song, I thought of a pair of scissors. A pair of scissors and a green piece of paper, and then a green plastic card; and then a flash of steel and little pieces flying everwhere.
and so I took you by the hand into our ivy-laden backyard. we sat on the cement bench next to the fountain, a cool evening breeze making my skin orgasm.
We laid a jigsaw puzzle out on the ground and began to piece it together. Slowly but surely, a strange face, a very slender neck, and a teardrop body manifested itself as the puzzle was completed.
"I call this 'Desire to just be'."
It was one of my own drawings.
