It's getting to be springtime and we leaned on the car in silence smoking cigarettes. She looked down at the car and rubbed her finger over the paint which was looking yellow and dusty from all the pollen covering it. The trail she left was like an abyss cutting through the plant semen that coated the rest of the car. An interesting contrast, as that abyss was slick and shiny and seemed to be something like a desperate cry for attention, a resistance from the rest of the dusty yellow muck.
"Look at that," she said.
"What??
"Pollen works like car wax I swear, look at how shiny that paint is when I rub the pollen off."
She moved her finger again across the paint of the car and created another gash of resistance.
"Yeah, I guess you're right."
"You're damn right I am, and you know what else??"
"What's that??"
"I hate Wal-Mart parking lots, they're like clogged arteries, people going in and out and blocking us, the red blood cells, from our daily activities."
"Yeah, fuck Wal-Mart."
"Let's never come here again, the world has enough cheap plastic crap, enough of which is bought and sold everyday that I doubt that industry would miss our support."
"I couldn't agree with you more on that subject. So let's scrape the pollen off this car and get medievil."
"Huh??"
"You know, go find some quiet field somewhere and build some stone walls and shit like that. Like people used to do."
"Ah yeah, but we gotta have pear trees if were gonna do that."
I pulled the packet of pear tree seeds from my pocket and her eyes lit up like a supernova.
