The highlight of my week was orchestrating my own little shoot. That’s right, a self shot set! I have been a student of photography longer than I have been a model. I have taken several classes and have a collection of different cameras ranging from toy to ultra pro.
One of my main motivators to be here on this website is to be able to create and express art. Shooting a set for myself for my own (and possibly your) enjoyment was an idea that just seemed logical from the start.
Two things happened that inspired me to go ahead and shoot. The first was this nice comfy black chair that I have held onto forever and ever. It was expensive, but taking up way to much room in my place. Time to let go… But first, why not use it for something really great like an SG set. The second thing that helped me decide to shoot was I was given a very special bouquet of flowers. I wanted them to be somehow immortalized! I decided to integrate them into this self-shot set.
There is a third piece to this set also. It is a traditional photo album. It’s a small one that looks like a camera. I started collecting old school photo albums. My life is filled with some pretty amazing stuff but sadly I am not able to share every moment with the public. So these really awesome, sometimes naughty photos get to be placed in “Real Old school Albums”.
I love the photos that I took for this set. Now I just have to choose what ones to use, and see how much editing needs to be done. Ultimately I would love to shoot a set for myself and submit it without any editing, the way my first set was submitted. However shooting a set for yourself is a bit challenging and it took a span of about 3 hours. This caused changes in the natural light I was using, and so I might need to color balance them before the set can be submitted. Either way I felt accomplished by attempting this. Even if the set is not accepted, I had a lot of fun playing with my camera and playing with the flowers (which ended up thrown everywhere!). Some of the pictures I am entirely in love with, so no matter what happens with them, I feel like I created some worthy art by shooting these photos.
With a little pollen left on my face,
K.
