The coolest thing that happened last week was MY BIRTHDAY!
(insert old fart jokes here…. Any reason for a fart joke; I am game)
Last year I really went all out for my birthday. I threw a giant party at one of my favorite Hollywood hang outs, Bar Sinister! I had a lot of local LA friends attend, and (lucky me) I had a huge group of people who traveled pretty far and wide to see me. I wore a really awesome Gothic Lolita outfit compliments of Lip Service. We Drank Whiskey all night, had a cupcake fight, played on the stripper pole that was directly in the middle of my party, and all my girl friends got spanked in the naughty upstairs... :) It was a huge success, and made me feel pretty loved and amazing, but it also took a decent amount of party planning effort!
This year I wanted to have a very simple day filled with simple pleasures. I don't have my birthday set visible on any social media, so I figured it would somewhat slip by unnoticed. I got everything I wanted, (well except for that last part, my phone still blew up all day with Happy Birthday texts :)
I started the day by laying in bed way later than I normally do, while enjoying some really good coffee. I went down to Santa Monica for lunch. I ate in the really great place down at the end of the pier. I was seated right outside, right on the water, facing back towards the wheel, and the beach. I have to say I am constantly grateful that I get to live in this place. So many people travel from all over the world to see Santa Monica, and play in the beach that is my backyard.
After eating some amazing food I wandered down to the beach and set up a nice little spot to enjoy the waves and sand under a cozy little beach umbrella.
It was amazing.
I think we often underestimate how healthy it is to take down time. A time out. Zone out. Nothing time. Whatever you want to call it, I served myself a nice dose of it. I have so many different projects I am involved with right now, I feel like the to do list never ends. As much as I love living my life this way, and have chosen this lifestyle, sometimes it is good to unplug.
I also spent some time reflecting on past friendships, old habits, and focused on how I want my future to be. Things I would like to tweek a little, and things I would like to change a lot. Since that day I have already seen progress down a new path, and that excites me. What can be done with a little focus is pretty amazing.
The last and most important thing that I did on the beach, was to be thankful. I feel like we live in such a fast paced and competitive world that it can seem impossible to live at an apex of thankfulness. I thought about the long list of things that I have been blessed with, and my heart felt completely at peace. I believe that these kinds of things are the best gifts that you can receive from the universe. And so for that I say, Thank You!
One year older. One year better.
K.
