Is There A Point To All This?

i couldn't help myself
i missed her touch
i was tired of looking down that street
just to see if her car was there
after so long i made the phone ring
why
i knew there wasn't a point
soon i learned there was a point indeed
we still had our love
we still had our kiss
we still had our touch
but alas
that wasn't the point at all
as the days when on my joy grew
but with every fruit that isn't taken in
it tends to rot, and go sour
suddenly the hurt set in
suddenly the pain grew
now... we're getting to the point
as the anger starts to reveal itself
i question is this what i really want
i question is this love what i really need
i feel i'll forget myself if i love her more
i make the comparisons from then to now
i'm starting to understand the point
the philosophy Dogen said all those years ago
"There is no past, there is no future, and when you become conscious of the present, it has become the past."
remember the past
reflect on the past
but don't live in the past
and... don't try to hold on to the past as if it is right now
that's what she is
that's what the point is
