"Sainty is a Virginity of the Mind" -Steve Aylett
So after going through the gaunlet of Orlando traffic in the 4pm-6pm time frame, I made it safely somehow to the venue.
Now for the show itself. When I finally got to the HOB, I found out that Flogging Molly was doing an unplugged set across at the Virgin Megastore. Was really good hearing that and getting to meet with that band. A shame that I had no camera, damn kilts with their non-pocket having tendances. I stayed for a bit and then staked out my spot in line.
The opening bands were better than I expected. First up was the Rolling Blackouts, a SoCal band that reminded me of the Strokes and Hives. The only thing that really limited the set was the sound. Couldn't really here the lead singer at all. Next was the Scotch Greens from Cali/Idaho...yea Idaho. These guys really surprised me. Having a soft spot in my heart for rockabilly, liking these guys was really easy. Very huge and high energy set reminding me of Th' Ledgendary Shack Shakers. The guitarist Wes Walsworth was insane. Can't wait to hear their full album Professional in April.
Now for the Flogging Molly. Dear fluffy sweet lord, these guys are great live. The crowd and I knew every song they played, was a really good group there. Although kinda puzzling earlier when they were moshing during a amped up square dance during the Scotch Greens' set. The Mollys really tore the place up, player all over their catalog and keeping the place alive. They could have played every song they knew and the crowd would have stayed the whole time. Was really drained after the show, had no voice left and need water and a coke badly.
I did score some really good merch. Usual tees, pins and patches. The real score was a limited one night only show poster, this thing was a must to pick up. All I need to do know is frame the bastard, its huge.
I am not really doing much else this weekend. I did go to the local Greek Fest at St. Katherine's. Good food, although a lack of lamb was evident. I did get some really good kabob w/ orzo and stuffed grape leaves. Also some baklava and greek coffee (which is like a really stronger version of espresso). Well all of you, less than a week till the Dropkick Murphys w/ Sick of It All and Horrorpops. This will be good. Cheers all.
