Well... my first day of being 27 was absolutely beautiful... 27 degrees... perfect temperature for sundresses, bare legs, flip flops and beer on my patio (which I'm currently doing at this very moment waiting for the man to get home). We're going to meet my aunt and uncle in "bloody fucking Burnaby" this evening because they're in town. One of the things I love about summer is that people come to visit. I was feeling so homesick a couple of weeks ago that all I wanted to do was go back to Ontario and see my parents. That's subsided a bit with a couple of phone calls, a visit from my cousin who has clients out here and now a surprise visit from my aunt and uncle who I used to see in Ottawa when I lived there. AND I found out yesterday that my good friend is coming up from Santa Barbara with his new girlfriend. WTF! I didn't even know he had a girlfriend but good on him and I can't wait to see them.
Sometimes I feel very isolated out here from my family and old friends. I miss weddings and new houses and babies. And then I tend to insulate myself from it by not corresponding with them. I spoke to my wife on the phone last night for about an hour. We haven't talked on the phone in so long and it was greatly needed. She invited me to go to Peru with her in September. After (finally!) getting my taxes done I just might have the cash to do it.
I also found a neat little shop on Main that hosts a Letter Writing Club on the first Thursday of every month. They clear out the store and bust out all these old typewriters, supply paper and tea and cookies. I'm so stoked to go. I love writing letters and receiving them. Emails and texts are so impersonal I find. And seriously... who doesn't like getting something in the mail that's not a bill.
Anyway.. I'm rambling. I feel good.
I went to see one of my favourite bands last weekend. Good god I love beards and beer and men who sound like they drink whisky and smoke cigarettes for breakfast. Ben (the lead singer) also did a few songs from his solo album which is outstanding and based on Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian. I can't stand dudes in bands (a few homies excluded) but man... all I want to do is slow dance with him or have him read books to me. I'll leave you with a couple favourites. Maybe I can slow dance with someone else.
(love the pedal steel)
(my favourite version of this song is on an album called the Attic Tapes)
annnnd a Jawbreaker cover...

ardour:
Well, I do have a bunch of saved e-mails and texts, but you're right... I would prefer a typed letter. Ha, I'd want to do a rough draft first. I'd be scared of making a mistake. It sounds like a great little thing to do, it's a good idea for a club.

It's better than trees. And yes, I can certainly teach you.
