Good grief, it's been a goddamned ordeal just trying to get SG to load today. Is anybody else noticing that today?
Well, it's official: I'm a drug addict. In my last post, I commented about the inherent difficulty of fine tuning the correct dosage of a prescription medication, particularly if that medication is a powerful narcotic sedative like Ambien. But after failing to get my refill taken care of promptly and a paperwork mixup at the Walgreen's left me without for the last two nights, I realized just how badly I need the stuff. Tuesday night, I figured I could get by on OTC sleeping pills, at least for one night. I was wrong. I wound up taking twice as many as I thought I would need and still couldn't get to sleep. At two A.M., I started drinking the cheap white wine I use for cooking. At five A.M., groggy from almost a gallon of that swill and yet another fistful of diphenhydramine, I finally nodded off as the sun was coming up.
Last night went a little better because I made a point of mixing vodka and diphenhydramine on an empty stomach, but the real problem was waking up with a hollow-feeling head and my sleep patterns shot to hell. I'm no good if my rhythms are disrupted, people. I thrive on a structured life and the last two days of shifted sleep cycles has made me irritated. But tonight I got my wonderful little pills back and I shall sleep the sleep of the pure at heart.
Other observations from the last few days
* Saw an old episode of MASH for the first time in years. I can think of no harsher example of the privations faced by fighting men in a combat zone than the idea that 'Hot Lips' Houlihan would be considered sexually attractive. Truly, war is hell.
* Only 22 days until college football season begins! I've got season tickets to the Wildcats up in Evanston and, boy, do I look forward to that. And this year's even better because there will be SEVEN home games instead of the usual six. If I get a new digital camera, expect to see plenty of pictures from me.
* And also forthcoming, my review of the book I bought yesterday: "Sin in the Second City" It's all about the Everleigh Club, the world famous whorehouse that used to be on the near South side. I'm a sucker for Chicago history, so I made a point of snapping up a copy in hardback. One chapter in and it looks like a winner.

Hey, that book sounds good, city history and whorehouses, how can you go wrong?
get some sleeeeeeeeep....
I kinda take that as a compliment.
I do all my pictures by myself. As long as I have a camera, a tripod and Photoshop, I'm good to go.
