Foaming At The Mouth
The Demon Rum
I've been quite successful at kicking my own ass to stick with the whole fitness regimen the last two weeks. I hadn't touched a drop of alcohol since two weeks ago Sunday, the morning after the Mayweather-De La Hoya fight. Since then I've focused on workouts and nothing but.
This weekend was gonna be the proving grounds: Apexxx's Nintendo party last night and the last of my Alderman Reilly parties tonight. Could I get through the two events (each with freely available beer and booze) without yielding to temptation? The challenges actually stepped up early. I got an email on Weds. afternoon inviting me to cocktail and hors d'oeuvres reception on Thurs. night with my buddy Jason. I fought my way past having a drink beforehand, at the open bar during the event, and when we all went out to dinner afterward. Last night, I traveled out to the Nothwest side to Apexxx's place, where a keg of beer and spirits galore awaited. I abstained.
And my efforts were rewarded. I woke up this morning feeling like a million bucks, lean and strong as I've felt in my entire life. I mean, I felt better than I did as a teenager. But tonight was the challenge. I invited a girl from my gym to join me at the Alderman's party at Luxbar, with the promise I would catch her go-go dancing at a club on Wells later tonight. I held out for as long as I could, know perfectly well that as soon as I had one drink, I'd have seven.
And I was right. I broke down right before the end of the open bar tonight, and to make a long story short, caution went by the wayside. It's really not about the drinks, it's about the willpower to turn away from temptation and reap the benefits of it in the long haul. Ah well, I did better than I had any right to expect I would. I'll finish the rest of the night with as little damage as possible. Then it's back on track tomorrow....

if you ever hear something you like and want ideas to keep heading in that direction, i'd be glad to play the part of introducing you to some good metal - be it old school or new.
and good for you on the fitness and alcohol regimen. i need to do something similar with my life - i especially know how the 'one drink turns into seven' sort of thing goes...
