Well, I just got home from Toronto. Yes, in my sad little life, I come home and immediately head to the computer.
Here's my recap of the gala last night.
I got there early. It was scheduled to start at 9, and I got there at about 8:50. Surprisingly, there were already quite a few people there. I wanted to be early if only so I could get the arrival over with right away. The worries about going to the gala would begin to go away as soon as I arrived, so the earlier I arrive, the earlier my tension would start to subside.
No sooner did I get in the door than I was greeted by a very friendly face, which I didn't recognize. It was Free2B who I had spoken to here a few times, but had no clue as to what she looked like. Turns out she's really hot by the way. But more importantly, very friendly, which helped break the ice for me. We would talk many times through the evening, a real pleasure.
She and I met Lydia, very upbeat, even when neither of us could quite place her.
I had the pleasure of meeting BrightRedScream and her fiance. They make a very cute couple, and we spoke a bunch of times over the course of the evening.
By this point, I had had a couple beers. For those who have been following my journal, you'll recall that I don't drink. Not for any moral reason or whatever. I just haven't had any alcohol in years. Nonetheless, I had four beers, the first two of which went down quite quickly, and certainly helped relax me.
I met Sphinx who I've never really spoken to here, but I had seen her post that she wasn't sure she'd be able to travel to Toronto for the gala. I had ignored all usual social conventions and offered to drive her since she lives on my route there anyway. Of course, this flies in the face of your parents' warning not to accept rides from strangers. But she was hoping to perform at the gala and I felt bad for her. She got there anyway, and gave a great performance.
I was able to meet Dagger whom I had recently met online. She was quite active with her friends, but we managed to talk a couple times, and she was looking great, despite her pre-gala worries about what to wear. Special thanks for the peek at her ass when she posed for a picture with her friends.
Adair recognized me and introduced herself. We may have exchanged all of one or two comments here, but do seem to post in a lot of the same threads. She was wonderful, as were her boyfriend Tiriel, and her very cute guest Katt.
I was able to briefly meet Lycoris and her husband, though didn't get to talk to her much.
Although I was feeling fairly relaxed, due more to the friendliness of people than the beer, I hope, I did take some breaks from socializing. If you're an introvert, you know what I mean, if not, well, even though I was enjoying myself, I still needed to rest sometimes just to let my brain regroup.
During one of these rests, I noticed a couple girls talking and looking at me, and even pointing at me. Now, as someone who's prone to paranoid delusions, this was odd, and I assumed there must be someone behind me they were looking at. Next thing I knew, they were at my side, saying they knew me. I should mention that even when I do know what people look like, I still have trouble with faces. It was Sass and Helena, two of the first SG's I talked to on here. Sass was very friendly, and apologized for some pre-gala partying, which I thought was very cute. Helena was very quiet, though that can be understood given the volume of the live band at the time. And to those who think that Helena had a very large head in her profile picture, her head is actually quite proportionate to her body. She's very very cute too.
During one of my other breaks, I was found in a corner by Stealth_Moose, who I had only sort-of been introduced to earlier in the evening. He reminded me of my postings about the habit I have of hiding in corners during social functions. That was so funny, because he found me in an actual corner by myself, and it was the first time that night I had been in a corner. Great timing!
At some point in the evening, I also got to meet DrPhil which was great because I see his posts all the time.
Another person I met was Cottser, again someone I haven't talked to here, but who I've seen around here. Of course, he will now be known to me as Sean. Which isn't actually his name even though that's the way it sounds when he shouts it over the loud music of the club.
I got to ever so briefly meet Elana, when she went on a mad dash through the club shaking hands with everyone in sight. She actually made quite an impression during the night.
I spoke all-too-briefly to mkultra333, a recetn addition to my friends list.
I also want to thank our host for the evening, Lucy, who did a great job keeping things going. And her wonderful burlesque act, along with Loki, Avion and NormaJean. All did a great job, as about a million digital pictures can attest to. I've spoken briefly on here to NormaJean, and hoped to say hi but somehow I didn't.
Although I don't know them, and didn't meet them, I want to thank Tekky, Lisseth and Valdis for their frequent dancing. What can I say? I enjoyed watching. And for no apparent reason, I have to mention seeing Martini.
I enjoyed the band, though their name escapes me. A bit loud, but I guess that's the joy of live music.
My BIG disappointments of the evening? I've talked to Dallas a few times here, and she always seems so nice, and I missed meeting her. Blah!
The other person I missed meeting is my secret SG crush, who doesn't know I exist, Oryx. How I could possibly have missed my chance to meet her in the flesh, I do not know. But I guess that was the price I paid for otherwise having a great time.
Thanks everyone!!

Yes. Ideally, something like Frank from "Finding Nemo", or just a really cool image of sharks. I've been trying Google all night with no success.
drphil:
he was a friend of a band member i think.
