I'm going to the SG gala on Saturday.
I've been psyching myself up to go, and had some help from some of the nice people here who've encouraged me, so I'm on the guest list.
Way back, almost like in another lifetime, I used to go to goth/punk clubs when I lived in Toronto. Death in the Underground and Sanctuary Vampire Sex Bar. They're both long gone. Hell, Sanctuary is a fucking Starbucks now. Look at my pic - I'm not goth or punk. I love the music, I love the look. And I'm not being down on myself - some people can't pull off certain looks. I can't pull off a goth or punk look. But I met the dress code by wearing my finely tailored black suit. Looked kind of like an undertaker, thus I fit in somewhat.
But I had the advantage of having a good friend who I could go with, who was very outgoing, very extroverted. So, seriously shy me could manage to go to a club looking fairly out of place, and still have fun.
Many of the people on SG have been similair to the people at those clubs. Some of the nicest folks around. I remember mentioning the club I had been to that weekend to some co-workers, and one asked where specifically it was. I told her, and she said that it was the place that she would actually cross the street to avoid walking past it, because of all the scary looking people out front. I laughed and explained that there were less fights and other problems there than at the 'normal' clubs I had been to.
So, knowing that people here are mostly quite nice, I'm determined to go. I've asked a few people to look for me there and promise to say hi. I know that may sound pathetic or desperate, but I know that otherwise I'll end up standing by myself in a corner.
Hell, even if I end doing just that, the view of all these fantastic SG's and members will be pretty fun in itself.

I hope you have a blast tonight. I feel horrible that I couldn't make it and I'll definitely be regretting not going, but hey, I didn't even get a paycheck so even if I had the cash, I wouldn't have been able to go...
Now to find out what happened to my paycheck.....Get pictures or else!
