After two and a half years of hard work, my printer has died. 
For a moment I thought of getting it repaired, then realized that it cost so little to start with, that it would be easier to just get a new one.
I hate buying printers. The cost of the printer isn't too outrageous, but they kill you with the ink prices. I'm always afraid I'll get stuck with a printer that uses loads of expensive ink. Yes, I save by using generic cartridges, but they still cost a lot.
And the information they give about how many pages you can print from a cartridge is very misleading. For one thing, they base it on just 5% coverage of the page. I don't have the skills to figure out how much of a page full of text is actually got ink on it, but 5% seems awfully low, doesn't it?
I alwys just feel like I'm getting ripped off.
So, I'll drive the two hours to Staples and look at what they have, close my eyes, and grab one, and pray that it won't cost me a fortune to actually use it.
I'm thinking of getting one of those multi-function machines - printer, scanner, fax. I don't really have much use for a photocopy function, though I suppose I might use it that way from time to time. But I do send faxes, and my current fax machine is more than a decade old, and uses thermal paper, which sucks.

You know, I could spend 10x (or more) on a computer, and not sweat it as much as a printer. Always afraid I'll be stuck with huge ink costs, or something at the end of the line, and they'll discontinue the cartirdges or something.
Trust me, I obsess about a lot of things, but printers are a doozy.
Anyways, got a printer. Worried the whole drive home. Worried while setting it up. It seems to work alright. But I always get the feeling that the salesperson is just making facts up about the machine, in order to clear poor selling stock.
Okay - unless the printer actually does end up fucking me over, this is the last you'll hear about it.
