They really like the vibra-slap!
I hadnt realized almost all of their songs have that. The vibra slap is this percussion instrument.that sounds like a rattlesnake rattling kinda. is a percussion instrument consisting of a piece of stiff wire (bent in a U shape) connecting a wood ball to a hollow box of wood with metal teeth inside. The percussionist holds the metal wire in one hand and strikes the ball (usually against the palm of their other hand). The box acts as a resonating body for a metal mechanism placed inside with a number of loosely fastened pins or rivets that vibrate and rattle against the box. From wikipedia!
Anyway they use it in pretty much all their songs it was kinda tedious but generally it was a decent one and they played all the songs I wanted to hear.
Like going the distance, goats go to hell, and that song about the girl in a long jacket...
Edward sharpe and the magnetic zeroes
Is the ziggy stardust like alter ego of Alexander Ebert and they are completely different from his previous group Ima Robot which hyper fast dance punk. The zeroes are strange hippy country cultist a ten piece band of various instruments including guitar, bass, keys, mutliple purcussions, and trumpet. Their concerts are no less than a religous experience. They friggin rock. Anywho you should go see them! They are completely different from Ima Robot who are also pretty good if you like Hot Hot Heat, Devo, and The Faint youd probably like them too.
Erykah Badu was not too badu. She had a theremin thats pretty cool. Thats the first electronic instrument ever invented. It was made by Leon Theremin who was a Russian scientist. As for the concert it wasnt too bad kinda mellow but yeah Im not too into R&B. I liked her second opener too she staged dived at the end of her set! That was pretty hardcore I gotta admit.
Blitzen Trapper kinda sound like Wilco now that I think about it. Wilco with more power guitar solos. Yeah pretty much. I liked them and I like Wilco. Ive seen them twice last time just after A Ghost is Born they were awesome!
Some Blitzen Trapper highlights include a nice cover of Old Man by Neil Young. Their lead singer did a short acoustic set of two songs using one of those harmonica neck thingies. After that they did the one song I knew by them which is Furr a nice little brydsish number. Pretty good group.
I also liked the opener Moondogs which had a similar sound.
I also saw mates of state last sun which was pretty cool it was like an indie fest and there were like 12 bands thats night i really liked the second to the last group secret cities.
