Ever since baseball season started I have pretty much stopped watching movies. I miss watching movies, but you can't do that while baseball is on, ya know. I went from at least two a day to one in the last three weeks (and a bad one at that!).
I was considering going to Detroit for the Twins/Tigers game today. But they're expecting low temperatures and shitty weather. Oh, and I can't afford it. So then I realized there's a much better pitching matchup in Chicago where I could go see Mark Prior re-enact the McCarthy era while he mows down some Reds, but again, I can't afford it. I have the money, but I'm trying to control my spending. Dammit, I need to get out of this shit town and I need to save money to do that and that sucks. Why couldn't I just hit the lotto the other night?
I'm hoping I can plow through the rest of The Red and The Black today. I'm about fifty pages in; it's kinda slow so far, but it's interesting enough. It hasn't yet convinced me to pick up more Stendhal though.
I need new books again. It's silly because I have a small library here in my apartment and I have only read about a third of the books I own, maybe a little higher than that, but not much. Yet I feel compelled to go out and buy more books because there are so many I want to read that I do not own. I need more Steinbeck though, dammit! I don't think he'll ever soar as high in my heart as Dostoyevsky or Nabokov or Hemingway or Capote or Burgess or Hesse, but he's climbing the charts.
I want to read Thomas Malory's Le Morte D'Arthur. I picked up my copy of it several years ago and have never cracked it open. I read Stephen King's Dark Tower series a couple weeks ago and I want to see just how much he pulled from the old Arthur tales to create Roland.
Bah, anyway, I'm off to read some Stendhal....
