Well, I may be quitting my job today. My boss enjoys blocking my attempts to get as many hours as I possibly can. I am supposed to work 4-9 tonight. I am guessing I will be getting a call sometime this afternoon telling me not to bother coming in. I'm not going to answer the phone, I will just show up anyway. If when I get there I am told that the person scheduled until 5 is just going to stay through and that I have the night off, then today will be my last day. My boss is on vacation right now, so we are allowed a larger labor percentage than usual and yet we are well under what we would need to be even if she were working this week. She, despite being on vacation, is the one who will be telling me to stay home (not directly, but through her theiving daughter). She doesn't want me getting overtime, which, if I work the 4-9 that I am scheduled I will get all of 50 minutes of overtime.....yet two of the managers have 5 or 6 hours of OT each. I know this doesn't sound like a legitimate reason to walk out, but it's more the straw that broke the camel's back type of thing. I've been putting up with so much shit there for so long. I'm at the point where the next time I get fucked over I am walking.
That said, last night wasn't too fucking bad. Every Saturday is "Pathetic Driving Staff Day", so I usually get to clean up. Normally it's myself and maybe one other above average driver and then four or five mediocre at best people. I made pretty decent money because I can turn my runs about twice as fast as the shitty ones.
Had my first Fantasy Baseball Draft of the season yesterday! I don't know how I feel about my team yet. I just have to remember that there are 16 teams so all of the talent is thinned out. My pitching staff is amazing though and they will carry me far. My offense, however, despite a couple gems is overall pretty weak.
Today I am going to make some "Best Of" mixes for this thread. I'm thinking of doing the Mr. T Experience and Poster Children. I've already done the Dead Milkmen, the Violent Femmes, The Queers and Elvis Costello. I want to do one for Camper Van Beethoven, but when I tried to do one awhile ago I couldn't do it in under three discs.
EDITED TO ADD:
Well, I did get fucked over but not as substantially as I expected. I was sent home at 8 despite the fact that there were a bunch of runs up and one of the people who was supposed to go home before me wasn't going home yet. But, you know, I had hit OT about ten minutes before that and you can't possible risk your labor cost in order to provide better customer service
So, tonight was not my last night. I did put in my two weeks though. March 27th, barring something unforseen, will be my last day. I had made a promise when I got rehired last time to not quit without giving a decent amount of notice. Two weeks seems decent enough and it allows me time to look for something new, eh.

Yeah, Spike is the first Elvis Costello I heard too. I saw the "Veronica" video on MTV, and was intrigued. Couldn't afford to buy it right away, but it didn't take long. And this was during a big Beatles phase for me, so the fact that Paul McCartney co-wrote some of the songs clinched it. A lot of Costello fans regard this as a low-point in his career, but I can't figure that out. Admittedly it has some synth stuff here and there that seems kinda cheesy today, and maybe the fact that Elvis was getting MTV play at all turned off some fans... But as far as I'm concerned, Spike is a career highlight. I love the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and especially Marc Ribot on guitar. Whenever I hear "Chewing Gum," I think every pop song should have a tuba. And Ribot's avant skronk.

Any idea where you want to work? I have my stuff in with temp agencies, so I'm not to worried, but I feel sick over this (literally). They say they have no record of my work, so they think I faked my hours. I'm waiting to hear back from them. I'll probably get fired. I feel nauseated. I've been with them for four years. I was going to quit soon anyway, but quitting doesn't leave a black mark on your record.
