I haven’t written here in who knows how long. I dropped in now because I had a million things to say about what transpired this week, and now I don’t really know what to write because very little of what I thought matters.
I honestly believed theUS was filled with better people. I honestly believed the radical right and Christian fundamentalists were the minority. I honestly believed most people cared about people.
What a harsh reality to face that I was wrong.
Egalitarianism and environmentalism took a back seat to anger, frustration, and hate. The evangelicals have proven themselves both immoral and tyrannical. The Republicans continue to care only for control. This was never about “Make America Great Again.” That was only a catch phrase to whip up anger and resentment, a strategy right out of Hitler’s playbook. I honestly believed that most people would see through that, especially after Trump’s first administration, where he instantiated an activist Supreme Court, attempted to weaponize the Department of Justice, worked closely with monied interests to dismantle environmental and labor protections, and buddy up to dictators, all while draining the US coffers to the benefit of his own private interests and driving up the national debt on a per-year scale greater than any other president.
We watched him do all of that, and still 75 million people voted for him, many of them working class, immigrants, and women. “Don’t look at my record,” he said. “Look at these problems instead. Look at these other people causing problems. They’re the Enemy Within, and I will get rid of them.” And it worked. 75 million people, many of whom are the very problems he considers, voted for him.
People really are that fucking dumb. And I’m so fucking disappointed about it.
