I have three games of Borderlands 2 going on. When I originally played it, it was well after all but the Fight for Sanctuary DLCs were out. I played as the Vault Hunger Gaige with an anarchy character build and just ran around wreaking havoc with a Torgue shotgun. Good times.
Actually, no, that wasn’t the first time I played. I started with Maya, and played her as a rifle Siren. But I didn’t understand how to build out these characters at the time and got stuck once I started working her through Ultimate Vault Hunter mode, which is the most challenging difficulty if you’re unfamiliar with the franchise. I ended up rolling a new character, Gaige, and I got through the core game and additional content with her.
Which brings me to my first concurrent game: Maya. I never really gave up on her. After playing Borderlands 2 as Gaige, and then playing through Borderlands 3 with both Moze and Zane, I opted to return to finish my original play-through of Borderlands 2 with Maya. I reset her skill trees, redistributed her skill points, et voila! I now had an Ultimate Vault Hunter capable of tearing down Handsome Jack’s diabolical schemes. I still haven’t finished that play-through yet, though I have finally arrived at the final battle.
A couple years ago, I picked up the Nintendo Switch. I was riding around with my writing buddy looking for one because at the time, they were hella scarce. No one fuckin’ had one. Except Walmart. As a fluke. It was the only one they had and I managed to get my hands on it. My buddy was big into Borderlands too, and also had a Switch, so once I had my Switch all set up, I picked up Borderlands 2 for it and started a game with him. We played seldomly, and now very rarely. That game remains ongoing.
When my lady and I got together, she expressed interest in playing video games with me. Being as huge a fuckin’ nerd as I am, she was into DnD, so I thought Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands would be a great game to play together. One her friends recently got into a new relationship with a woman who was also a video game nerd, and also into Borderlands, so we invited them over for game night and started a new game of Borderlands 2 together. That game also remains ongoing, but we’re far more consistent in getting together and playing.
So I have one stalled game on the Switch, and one vaguely progressing game and one crowd favorite on the Xbox. And the only reason I’m writing about it is because I’m planning to dive into my solo Maya game once I tap “post” on this blog.
Any Borderlands fans out there? If you’re on Xbox or Switch, let’s be friends! My gamer tag is nonsensetwice everywhere.
Anyway, here’s a Borderlands-inspired poster of @eveowl from her Borderlands-themed set “Hyperion”:
