wow. so much to say. well, first off, i was in austin for most of last week for sxsw. met a lot of people; but i hate talking about industry-crap so let me just give you my run-down on some of the bands i got to see:
- ted leo & the pharmacists: god-like. ted and everyone in his band are just amazing players and so charismatic.
- mooney suzuki: RAWK the house. damn, those guys are not fucking around.
- gloria record: i was kicking myself for never seeing mineral when i had the chance, so i had to see gloria record. the "soundscape" they create is mesmerizing.
- aesop rock: yay for indie hip-hop. those artists have more DIY ethos than a lot of punk bands these days. aesop is fun, off-beat, charming, full of wit and engaging all at the same time. i am a huge fan of his now.
- el-p: performed with aesop rock. lyrical attacks with real intelligence. the guy's a pro.
- the reputation: thank god there's a band that can actually write and play indie/pop rock well. i heard them off the street and had to watch their set. elizabeth is as talented as they come.
- taking back sunday: omigod. rocking, sincere, charismatic, amazing stage presence, gratitude for fans, they were just awesome. one of the best shows i have ever been to.
i hate taking trips away from pixie. (yeah, g'head, say i'm whipped if you want -- i don't believe in that sort of thing, but whatever.) i just miss her when i'm away. so i'm glad to be home!
both pixie and i are starting to feel a little bit of the pressure in planning our wedding. it's like 4 and a half months away, and even though we've done a lot, it still feels like we're behind! maybe we're just over-reacting.
how is everyone else doing? have you seen any new bands lately that you're now a big fan of?
