Clarey! it's new year's eve! this means we shall reunite tonight, how thrilling! so here's the plan: Clapham Station between 8 and 9, James will come meet us or give us directions. also in attendance will be Mark, Laura, Laura and possibly Jamie. Plus the usual congregation of the Misterhall crew et entourage. Then if transport is indeed running til 4am we can do the...

Clare, i am back on the board. your letters will be fast and frequent because i know you perhaps need it less right now, but it's still kinda good to be able to feel like you can get a bit of me when you need it.

i guess some of this must be censored, but you know how the situation stood; well it resolved itself,...

Welcome, welcome. Did I ever tell you about my linguistics prof who was some sort of Tolkien devotee? She was teaching us introductory syntax, and every damn sentence was something along the lines of , "The wizard killed the dragon. Was the hobbit killed by the orcs? Who ate the dwarf?"

Fine film, though, especially the battle sequence at the end... I must go and read the book one of these days.

Welcome back once again, good to have you.

Wotcha smile

finding credit cards can be a disadvantage too, I spend too much on amazon and dc dvd with mine.

Clare, today has been incredibly exciting in many respects! last night i did indeed write the promised postscript only to find that my motherboard's reboot problem was more than a little bit irritating; that was the first time it's rebooted and caused me to lose information, because i've still not installed any applications so usually there is no information to store anyway. so today i...

Hey Pretty. Where are you?

clare, i decided that your noble sentiments put me to shame - why should i write for an invisible audience that means i take pains to avoid the alien nation? when in fact you are all the audience i ever wanted? this way i can address myself to you directly and in doing so will feel much like dale cooper addressing the mythical 'diane' in...

Sleep deprivation not good. Dying of rage or bad posture also not good. Writing a book will help. Thinking of Peter Trudgill certainly will. smile

Thanks for the pic compliment. I wouldn't mind taking a course on time management and sleeping, but I'd probably miss it because I slept in...

Don't have MSN at the moment, should I?

you know what- dia does look like laura! i was wondering who she reminded me of.
mmmmm....
yeah.

finally a man with whom i am more obsessed than he with me? surely not. still not sure if that's a good thing or not...

i'm incredibly inebriated. it will look as though i'm not when my typing is flawless but this is because i keep erasing and retyping til i get it right. due to popular demand i am changing my picture back. evidently...

cockroach
by c bukowski

the cockroach crouched
against the tile
while i was pissing and as
I turned my head
he hauled his butt
into a crack.
I got the can and sprayed
and sparyed and sprayed
and finally the roach came out
and gave me a very dirty look.
then he fell down into
the bathtub and I watched
him dying
with a subtle pleasure
because I pay the rent
and he didn't.
I picked him up with
some greenblue toilet
paper and flushed him
away. that's all there
was to that, except
around hollywood and
western we have to
keep doing it.
they say some day that
tribe is going to
inherit the earth
but we're going to
make them wait a
few months...

you are NOT too ugly to live and you are NOT insignificant and your new haircut is GREAT and you maybe are a little more obsessed than i but that doesn't mean that i don't care or that i don't think you're amazing...

woo i finally have a personal pic! i don't like that it's a suggestive one but today was the first time i used the 'curves' options on photoshop fairly subtly instead of like 'WHEEE let's totally fuck up the colours!' primarily because i was working in black and white admittedly but nevertheless i feel a sense of accomplishment. this photo sort of exemplifies it though...

nice piccie, surely that wasnt on the underground though? I'll have to get around to actually putting a pic of me up rather than Monkey or wombles.

today i would like to reflect on the assertion made in notes from underground [continuing my theme of LU in a totally unrelated context, how beautiful words are!] that stupid people accomplish more than intelligent people because they fail to predict consequences and thus don't fear them. i feel this way of living is undermining to intelligent people despite it being true, and henceforth i...

it's like 01.39 in the english clockland, and my eyes hurt. yes i woke up and carried on living. le tigre have a great song about that actually called, oddly enough, Keep On Livin. i strongly recommend that you download it, it is cheesy electronica but it carries a strong message with accurate lyrics, they really hit the mark, and is generally wondrous.

so i never thought anything of it before but is cave canem a reference to something. there was this band called that near my hometown that i was a huge fan of-and i suppose i didn't think about it-and now it has popped up on your profile and i'm curious. why am i always the completely uncol person that's the last to catch everything? and why didn't anyone tell me LU made undies?? i want to be a cool kid again!!! it's not fair. i'm gonna go look in the mirror now and say hell yeah!

well today it rained AGAIN. i was walking to eve's thinking how special it was that the skies were relatively clear, when i noticed this incredible grey cloud against a black background, all thin and stretched where it was raining in the distance, so i whipped out my trusty camera to capture that moment. instantly REALLY VIOLENT HAIL errupted from the sky directly above me...

I seem to get caught out in any major downpour. I reckon the weather is an evil malignent entity out to get me: "He's just left the house, give him 5 mins to get down the road and the heavens will open wide!"

How I wish I would remember to take my camera with me everywhere I go.. I used to do that in NYC, and I got fabulous pictures of all kinds of weird and funky things... Just the other day, I was in a subway station looking down, and I noticed a plastic kazoo lying there between the tracks. It was surreal. And of course, no camera to capture the moment.

The pics you took sound fabulous. You will be posting them, right? smile

urgh the morning has arrived once again to rip out my eyeballs with it's unsightly sprightliness. if i open my curtains a crack i start to corrode when sticks of light touch my exposed flesh. obviously this is an indication that my caffeine levels are too low...

You know what? Noam Chomsky was in town a few days ago and no one told me! He was bashing the US and Israel as usual, but it still would've been nice to see and hear him speak. Shana Poplack is speaking here on Friday about how Quebecois French has evolved in real-time (vs. apparent), that should be pretty interesting. You're welcome to come; wine and cheese will be provided.

Oh, yah, thanks for mentioning that thing about language and thought. I do appreciate it! Along the lines of the language/brain thing, I read recently about how some people with Broca's aphasia apparently lose the ability to match prefixes with their phonetic environments, so they'll say "inlegal" instead of "illegal" (because in- is the underlying form). I thought that was pretty cool.
