urgh the morning has arrived once again to rip out my eyeballs with it's unsightly sprightliness. if i open my curtains a crack i start to corrode when sticks of light touch my exposed flesh. obviously this is an indication that my caffeine levels are too low...
there are 5 options for productivity today:
i can
1) go back to sleep [mmmm]
2) go see my friend eve who i planned to see today, my day off, but who lives around the corner from work which makes it a bit lame
3) design some posters for work that need doing but technically we have a department for that so i'll probably get it thrown back in my face!
4) draw pretty manga people
5) read Sociolinguistics: An Introduction to Language and Society for the 50,000th time [but i've not read it for a good 6 months]
none of these seem to strike me particularly. i think i'll go see eve because she tried to persuade me by offering to chainsmoke and discuss mashing food up. an offer that surely one would be a FOOL to reject?

You know what? Noam Chomsky was in town a few days ago and no one told me! He was bashing the US and Israel as usual, but it still would've been nice to see and hear him speak. Shana Poplack is speaking here on Friday about how Quebecois French has evolved in real-time (vs. apparent), that should be pretty interesting. You're welcome to come; wine and cheese will be provided.
Oh, yah, thanks for mentioning that thing about language and thought. I do appreciate it! Along the lines of the language/brain thing, I read recently about how some people with Broca's aphasia apparently lose the ability to match prefixes with their phonetic environments, so they'll say "inlegal" instead of "illegal" (because in- is the underlying form). I thought that was pretty cool.
