reading horror literature by the greats is a sure fire way for me to appreciate a class.
I've never been in an english class where Poe, Bierce, Lovecraft, Howard were honored and looked upon with the same admiration as Hawthorne or Miller. (Well maybe Poe got some but only in regards to the gothic literary movement or "dark" romantic period)
This may turn out to be a very interesting class, only taken 3 tries to find a professor whose method I cold tolerate.
