Finally got to see Thee (A) Silver Mt. Zion... tonight, playing at the Croc. Been listening to them for soooo many years and choreographed a solo trapeze dance to one of their pieces. I was gonna post a nod to their encore performance of 'God Bless Our Dead Marines' ( a great number to close with) but when trolling YouTube i found this and am... Read More
I came across The Gift after you sent me that wonderful quote so I've added that to my to read list too. It sounds really interesting. Amusing picture there :-)
I hope your decorating went well. I wish I had a recipe for that Turkish rice pudding, I would make gallons of it. It's that delicious! Mmmmm! I get it at a local restaurant in my area. I should trick the chef into giving it to me.
P.S. - I used to love to doodle when I was a teenager. I should get back into it.

That is actually exactly the kind of writing I've been looking for recently. I was reading The Poetics of Space by Gaston Bachelard and was really interested in a chapter where he talks about how human being can devote himself to "things" and make them his own by perfecting their beauty. A little more beautiful and we have something quite different. I think this is a really important concept when we are wondering what on earth we can do and where our place is sometimes. Someone was telling me they had read something similar, an essay on virtue maybe by Woolf but we can't find it. I hope you're well. Thank you so much for the lovely quote, it's made my morning.
