In Memory of Scutterbotch
The Life of a Stray
Do not cry at my passing, as I am not upset. I am batting around snowballs just like I was before, and I am chasing after someone's toes to bite. I was cast out on the street at one point in my life, so I did not trust humans till I met you both. You got me to trust you little by little. I would rub my head against your leg, but if you petted me too much or tried to pick me up, I would give you my warning meow and if it was my step mom, I would chase after her feet trying to bite her toes (I loved doing thatit was fun to watch her run away and laugh.) Then I began to trust you a little more and I would let you pick me up. I even started to relax in your arms and began to purr, but then I would realize I was starting to look like a softie, so then once again, I would give my little warning meow and jump down and if it was my step mom, I would chase after her feet trying to bite her toes.
You gave me a place to feel safe, a place to play, a place to sleep, a place to eat and a place to receive love. To show my love to you I killed everything I possibly could and left it on your patio and early in the morning when my step mom would walk out barefoot and half asleep to feed me and almost step on the leftovers and jump and yell, I snickered. I loved to torture my step mom. Then the time came that my step mom left, but my step dad still took good care of me. He always left the garage open for me to give me warmth and even let me come in the house on special occasions. He always kept my tummy full and gave me a warm lap and a loving touch. I thank you both for all of the love and care you gave me. I know you miss me & I miss you too, but I am fine and enjoying just being Scutterbotch. So when you feel a slight nip at your toes, or a rub against your leg, it is just me stopping by to say hello.
I love you,
Scutterbotch
