I don't think I have room to write the laundry list of ways that SG has changed my life over the last ten plus years.
Sure, there's obvious things- meeting people, being on tour for years, traveling all over the world. I've had some zany adventures, met my fair share of celebrities, been in some movies and TV shows and gotten on stage with Iggy Pop. But mainly, I look around myself and realize that most of the nearest and dearest friends I've made in my adult life, I made here. Not just the girls, either. The entire community. Local groups, people I met on the boards, staff. People I talk to almost every day, even though some of them have been off the site for years. I'm not even sure I know anyone anymore who isn't connected to this site. ALL MY FRIENDS ARE PORNFRIENDS!
Some really awesome things grew out of all of these relationships with a bunch of nutters I met on a porn site. This month, Fractal and I are incorporating our business, Haute Macabre. HM would never have existed without a friendship and partnership that grew directly from this site. Not just because I met Fractal here- we had lots of help along the way from courtneyriot and zoetica and Amitabha. Reagan and d23 have taken pictures for us at Fashion Week. Other members and girls have pitched in as advertisers, content providers, and artists for our gallery show.
This community has been there for me whenever I've needed a couch to crash on, a friend in a strange town, or just a laugh when I'm down. I've found friends, lovers, travel companions, criminal henchmen, and even a business partner here. Pretty much everything that has happened in my life in the last 10 years can be traced, either directly or indirectly, to an article I read in the Willamette Weekly that inspired me to pick up the phone and call SGHQ to say 'Hi'. Yeah, you could do that back then.
The most important thing Suicidegirls has allowed me to do is to find like-minded people and connect with them. Sometimes, a little too like minded. Here's Fractal, me, courtneyriot, and Zoetica out on official Haute Macabre business. Yeah, it's like that.
