When I was younger, I remember my mom going off because I returned a library book late on her account.. accruing her late fees. I'd like to think I'm not that anal, but I do want to eventually have the good credit to buy some ol' fixer-upper and well, fix-er-up.
So much for that.
Apparently I was delinquent on a medical bill which my insurance claimed to pay at the time. The medical place neglected to tell me about the bill until six months later, after I threw away all my notes on the subject.
I remember spending hours on the phone with my insurance.. they told me I didn't have a "pre-existing" condition but just in case I would have to fax them all the prior insurance coverage I had for the last umpteen years.
Since they told me I was in the clear then, I don't want to pay these bills.
Yet, is it okay to not pay something out of principle, even though it will make your credit score FUBAR?
Personally I don't think it's fair to dock anyone on their credit score because they don't have enough money to pay medical bills if they are medically necessary.
Sorry, rant.
