my cousin is (was?) a construction worker, and last week an I-beam fell on him. it broke his pelvis and several vertebrae. fortunately, it did not damage his spine.
today I went to visit him in the hospital, and I'm so glad I did, because he got up in a wheelchair for the first time, and we got to go outside! he is such a determined dude. I really am very proud of him. the physical therapists were telling him how easily people often give up, and he told them that he wanted to run a 5K.
(he might not even walk again, so that is pretty damn ambitious)
he's on an IV drip for pain medication and the doctor told him that he can't leave the hospital until he's off that, and as soon as she told him that he stopped pressing the button to take it. when he leaves the hospital, he'll be transferring to a rehab facility, but I can tell he doesn't want to be at the hospital anymore.
I'm pulling for him!
