Had a hawk hanging around the backyard yesterday for some reason:
He was eating, um..something when I took that second pic, so I wasn't about to get any closer or move for a better angle. (or, apparently, get a less blurry image)
Never seen one up close like that, at least in the wild. Just watching it was actually kind of an intense experience. All this grace and beauty mixed with that predatory gaze and the sharp, pointy parts... Terrifying and fascinating all at once.

I used to own a house and I had a bird feeder. For a while I had a hawk hanging around, hunting the smaller birds that came to the feeder. One day I watched it eat a sparrow. I felt very sad for the little sparrow, but what are you gonna do? Hawks have to eat, too. After it was done and flew away, I went outside to where it had been. There was just a few feathers around and that was it. No more sparrow.
