Hey everybody, sorry I haven't updated in a while, I've been an awfully busy guy this past week. Last Sunday I shot an event for the MS Society, which went really well. It's really getting to be a regular thing working with them. I enjoy it though, mostly because it's for a worthy cause, and I usually have fun, even though it was a 14...

Listening to Sufjan Stevens' Seven Swans. A Beautiful album. Hipples, you should really look into it.

I've got a long weekend coming up! that's exciting, although tomorrow I'm shooting an event for the MS Society, so it's less of a day off really. Oh well, it should be fun anyways!

tongue tongue tongue

Yesterday I had to close the restaurant, which i've never done on a Friday...

So you work in a restaurant too? smile That rawks. What is your restaurant like? It sounds like you guys get way better tips than we do. Our tips come in only once every two weeks (alternating our paycheck) and we usually get about 1.50/hour we've worked. Getting even 30 in -one- night would be amazing!

What sort of stations do you work? What sort of food do you cook? Oh, I'm so excited to know someone else (beyond the people I work with) that is in the industry.

I haven't had more than a few minutes to sample the "Seven Swans" album, but I'll let you know what I think tomorrow.
hipples:
smile This -is- beautiful music. Not something I can listen to on my way too or from work, but more an album for me to play while I am reading or moping about my apartment (as I am doing right now).

I love the beach. It was so beautiful and hot out on my little weekend. It's too bad I didn't make any excursions myself. As of today the weather has turned a little sour again.

How warm is it in Manitoba as of late?
hipples:
smile Okay! On your suggestion I decided to check out the "Common" album. When someone recommends an album to me, I always give a few listens before I really decide how I feel about it, so hopefully none of my comments seem too premature.

Now as I previously mentioned, I'm not always big on hip-hop, because I find I don't usually relate as easily with the music. I really like this album though. I've had the various tracks in my head on more than one occasion, and anyone I work with can tell you that I've been singing lines from "Testify" while working. Unfortunately the general theme still seems to be a little beyond me. This hasn't stopped me from playing the album several times over, but it might affect the albums lasting appeal with me.

This line from the Pitchfork Review of "Be" seems to illustrate the point where I lose interest:
...the wise MC is not preaching, just leisurely speaking, playing the world-weary yet still-hopeful ghetto documentarian.

The CD is catchy... but I'm neither world weary or familiar with any "ghetto" myself. I don't identify with it.

Thank you very much for the recommendation though! Please suggest more to me!

i have 8089 songs in my iTunes/iPod library, and I'm 60 songs away from having listened to every song. It's been a long ride, but I discovered some new stuff, laughed, cried, and generally had a great time. Thanks Apple. tongue tongue tongue

Sweetness, I shall have to acquire that in the next couple of days and see what I think. I like some hip-hop (sometimes), but only if it's not too gangsta. I don't usually listen to the genre (or related styles). I need music that has something in common with me on *some level* (spiritually, lyrically, or serving that urge to "rock out"). I find I don't relate to any of that "gangsta bling bling, dances with ho's, killin some bro's" sort of music.

Of course, it's not all like that. Some people have turned me onto some interesting music and so I'm definitely going to have to check out the album you recomended.

Kareoke was fantastic on Monday, so rowdy. wink

the paper moon shoot is FINISHED! It went so well in my mind. My model was a real trooper, I dragged her around the city, shopping, taking photos, all that jazz. It got a bit tiring...
